Chapter 4 Comments

I thought the examples provided of Wikis in K-12 Education, Chapter 4, were really good. It was great to hear of teachers and students connecting with children in other parts of the world and learning about their culture etc...It's nice to see students having that "open dialogue" in the same environment. The ability to create common interests but getting them motivated and to learn at the same time, is even better! It almost seems effortless but on a global level. I like the fact it includes all level learners.
I also liked, Other Wiki Tools and Resources. Great supplemental aids for teachers! The Wiki engines list proved helpful at http://tinyurl.com/34584q. Webnote is a great online Post-It Note repository, where you can use various pieces of Webpages you might be saving.
Lastly, I agree with Will Richardson in the end of this chapter when he says, "The collaborative environment that wikis facilitate can teach students much about how to work with others, how to create community, and how to operate in a world where the creation of knowledge and information is more and more becoming a group effort." I think we have evidence of this in our class, EDUC 5575.
